Ksubi topless party

It’s not often that I applaud the actions of a brewery, but in this case Fosters deserves a mention for taking a principled stand against the antics of Ksubi, an Australian men’s fashion design house. Fosters were to have supplied free alcohol for the Ksubi party, held as part of the Rosemount Sydney Fashion Festival. In order to get the free alcohol at the Ksubi party, you had to go topless. To reinforce the point the invite had a photo of a topless woman and the following text:

“Hey losers! Sick of those winter nights? We are! Like watching the opposite sex dancing with their tops off? We do! Come to our topless beach party,” the invite said.

“If you have your top on you will be paying for your drinks! … If you have your top off, you will be sweatin it out for free! All night long. All night.”

Fosters declined to be part of the Ksubi “chicks are just a means of transporting a pair of breasts for guys to ogle” party and refused to supply the alcohol. Now that’s responsible service of alcohol.

Wow. In what world did they think this was appropriate?
I can hear it now ‘we weren’t making anyone go topless so it’s not like we’re discriminating or being big mysoginistic twonks’

Kudos to the brewery, indeed. And what a totally fucked-up party concept from Ksubi.

It certainly takes the “Women Drink for Free!” concept to a whole new level.

I was just imagining the defence lawyer in the court room explaining to the judge that the woman in question had been drinking alcohol, with her top off … etc etc.

Well yes. Under NSW licencing law that kind of targeted promotion is illegal, even with shirts on.
I don’t know how much political kudos is due to Fosters, it’s more likely that they ran the promotion past someone with a clue about RSA.
And though it’s not alcohol related I’ll reproduce this from the SMH:

(b) putting a nude woman on the invitation who appeared to be cavorting with a rather large turtle.

Oh, to be a fly on the wall at the office of the graphic designer who took the request. A… turtle you say?

Quite possible, I guess. Anyway, glad that the idiots at Ksubi got some public shaming in the press.
