Firefox: Exactly. I've been trying to hammer that point now on the internetz now for years, but some people just can't get past the blogging-journalism cliche. Plus the idea that personal bloggers are all writing about what they had for breakfast.

[...] The now very tired debate[1] going on between MSM and the journalistic Blogosphere went another round recently thanks to this piece by Christian Kerr in The Australian and some mud thrown back. [...]

"The Australian" wants to see balance in journalism? ROFL! This is the newspaper that is still fairly sceptical about all this "climate change" stuff! :P

Since when do bloggers claim to be journalists anyway?

Christian Kerr is so funny. To quote him completely out of context, in the Australian, "there is so much righteous indignation, so much sneering superiority, so little analysis and so little humility in the search for balance, or even for further information that may enrich or enhance the views expressed".

"Does anyone else wonder why it is, with all the current journalistic rhetoric about balance, that we hardly ever hear anything promising/praising journalistic objectivity any more?"

This is TheOz we're talking about here? Perhaps because some journalists gave it up so long ago they've forgotten about it & others never did know?

PS great post. Onya Hoyden!

Wouldn't it be loverleeey, Anna?

Some folks have pointed out that it's basically just an online archive of the dead-tree version, so we shouldn't expect all the linkies, but that strikes me as a cop-out. There are quite a few traditional newspapers out there now who make a point of marking up their online version with the appropriate links to both immediately relevant and tangentially related content, because that standard is, more and more, what online readers expect.

I thought Murdoch Media was supposed to have its finger on the pulse?

Isn't that one of the "best" rules of "debate" - saying your opponent has said something but not providing context, citation, or anything else?

One day, I'm sure, I'll live to find that sort of thing not happening anymore. Right?
