Lazy school holiday blogging: neat stuff

in Life

Various links wot have caught my eye on various mailing lists, blogs and emails I have read recently:

Space.com has some of the Stunning New Images of Mercury taken by the spacecraft MESSENGER. (Trivia of the day – MESSENGER — short for MErcury Surface, Space ENvironment, GEochemistry, and Ranging.)

Take On Me: Literal Video Version – reworking of the lyric by Dusto McNeato – “Ever wish songs just sang what was happening in the music video? Well now they do.” (I had forgotten quite how weird this video was).

Did you know that Australians tend to build Big Things?

Like trains? Check out some Trains of Russia.

Ordinary things filmed in slow motion show many more interesting details.

John Clarke and Brian Dawe explain the financial crisis.

I like this a lot. I’m not sure what it says about me, though, that I immediately recognized the video just from the still of the sketchy guy’s eyes, before I read any of the text.

That it is men who have the vested interest in the status quo, that it is men who are benefiting from denying women's intellectual existence and that it is men who are insisting that what is best for them is what is best for women, too, are not the only aspects of feminist theory that George Elliot shares with her predecessors and that she left as a legacy to her successors
