This Fremantle by-election is getting exciting! I wasn’t letting myself believe that Greens candidate Adele Carles could actually win, after the brief moment of false hope at the last election – but early results are very promising.
Whoever would have thought that some Fremantle voters might be unimpressed at Labor stabbing their pen at Tagliaferri, a local mayor who by all accounts has never been a Laborite in his life?

A probable but not foregone-conclusion NO to daylight savings in the referendum. Again. And again, and again, and again. My in-depth psychological analysis: YES campaigners continue to squeal that NO voters are lunk-headed twerps who couldn’t find their arse with both hands and are stuck in a nineteenth century fantasy world in which the cows won’t lay and the curtains can’t sleep. Plus, won’t somebody think of the CEOs? NO voters and fence-sitters don’t particularly appreciate this approach. Their resistance continues to surprise YES campaigners, who couldn’t possibly imagine why anyone would have a problem with this characterisation.
OK, I think the daylight savings result is pretty solid now.
ABC are projecting a Greens win, and The Poll Bludger is calling it.

I’m waiting to be told we got it wrong with the Daylight Saving referendum (again). I freely confess my main reason for opposing daylight saving is pure laziness – I don’t like having to alter the clocks twice a year. But I figure after eight years living in the ACT, I’ve also had plenty of experience of Daylight Saving, and I didn’t like it there, either.
