Over the next few weeks, starting tomorrow (December 1st), we shall be padding out our normal blogging during the xmasolstichanukkwanzaa etc increased-social-obligations period with some reposts of older articles from the first years of this blog.
If there’s any post you’d particularly like to revisit with the opportunity for new comments, please let us know in case it wasn’t one of the ones we were considering. We might have Particular Reasons for not considering reposting some of our earlier efforts, but in most cases we will probably be chuffed that you remember something from ages ago. Also, so that our newer HaT posters don’t miss out, you can always request of them a repost here of something they originally published elsewhere.
To ease us into the nostalgic zone, I’m reblogging my favourite ever NASA Astronomy Picture, which is still my desktop background – this classic shot of Saturn’s rings with the Little Blue Dot of earth just visible over on the far left. The image is a composite (layered image) made from 165 images taken by the wide-angle camera on the Cassini spacecraft over nearly three hours on September 15, 2006.
