No clean getaway for me: “Well, it’s kind of true. They all fulfil the same role within a mythic narrative. What I’m saying is: I’m nerdier than that — I reject Joseph Campell’s hypothesis.”

But I got a better reaction when I referred to Gandalf as from, “uh… you know… the other one.”

Yes but is the original quote Tolstoy or Karl Marx? I’m getting my beardos mixed up.

  4. Mindy

Liam my 7 y.o. would be horrified that you thought it was Tolstoy or Karl Marx.

    “There is no try.”
Are you sure it’s not Gregan?

  6. Liam

    You know, Mindy, you’re right.

It’s quite obviously Moses in the book of Exodus; cursing Egypt and the Dark Wizard Pharaoh with his staff, and demanding the liberation of the house elves.

    And now in my head:
When Hermione was in Egypt’s land /(Chorus): LET MY DOBBY GO

A Google search overwhelmingly brings up this was a Yoda from Star Wars statement, not Dumbledore.

Yoda was trying to get Luke to lift his shift out of the swamp with telekinesis when this statement was made.

    @ Liam

He would probably accept that explanation. Otherwise he would want to know who Dumbledore and the bearded man were. *Geek parenting fail*.

[ETA: Oohh, I got moderated. I wonder why. At least I can let myself out. Bwahahahahahaha]

Late to the party, but I made two:

The destiny of a great great kingdom rests on the shoulders of a young boy. His name:, in Twilight font; Will Stanton in Buffy font. Picture is Harry Potter.

Gosh Angus next you’ll be telling me that there is no Santa Claus and that the tooth fairy is retired. At least I still have the Easter Bunny ;)

    [ETA: I love Sir Ian]
