There’s a good summary of the situation on the ABC PM website (it was the lead story on Friday night)

Its interesting to see how ABC/BBC news radio is picking up a lot of topics that tv & papers miss. Perhaps they’re not as dependent on ratings?

As I work for a union I’ve been following the situation in Fiji for a while, unions have been campaigning on it. Even this media coverage, slight as it is, really only comes because Qantas is involved. Not so much when its “just” Fijians. Much violence and harassment of unionists over there for some time. There was a “day of action” with protests at Fijian embassies/consulates a few weeks ago. see: http://www.flickr.com/photos/muaaustralia/sets/72157627573830594/
