There is nothing quite like some cute baby otters to improve my mood. Thank you!

Invisible Children co-founder Jason Russell in hospital
Jason Russell Invisible Children co-founder Jason Russell was picked up by San Diego Police

The co-founder of Invisible Children has been taken to hospital in San Diego, California, after he was found semi-naked and screaming at traffic.

Jason Russell narrated the Kony 2012 campaign video which went viral on the internet last week.

Police said he had been detained and taken to a medical facility.

Tony Abbott “in tribute” to Margaret Whitlam on the day of her death:

There was a lot wrong with the Whitlam Government.

    No grace whatsoever.

@tigtog what about the part where he called her Gough’s “Consort”. Ugh. It’s wife Tony Abbott, they were married. (And neither of them were royalty of any description unless that is something we didn’t know about them.)

Every time I read more about Gina Rhineharts ongoing feud with her family, it just makes me sick. Because who even does that.

  5. ollie

Hi all! That pic is adorable :-)

This week I have rambled excessively about gender in Sherlock Holmes and Dirk Gently, which I found much more enjoyable than doing any wor.

Have you folks seen the “release the Clinton” thing? Tis v funny – I’ve seen it on Shakesville and Clusters and Constellations

Apologies, I’m not sure how to embed properly …

[mod note: fixed that for you. Highlight the text you want to be the anchor for the link, then use the link button to add the link to that text.]

  6. ollie

Yeah, I messed that up. The three links are in order but are oddly formatted – the first chunk “Have – Shakesville” is my own blog, the second “and – Constellations” is to Shakesville, and the apology is to Clusters and Constellations!

Sorry all, I’ll learn how to do that better.

  7. ollie

    Oh, thank you mod :-)

    Oy oy oy!

Sad to admit, all I can feel right now is the thrill that the BBC has finished making Dirk Gently. When do you think we’ll get it over here?

  9. tigtog

ooh, Stephen Mangan! Darren Boyd! Helen Baxendale!

Well, we’ve not even had the Beeb’s December special here yet, so who knows when we’ll get the 3-episoder?

  10. Mindy

As in Dirk Gently’s Detective Agency? For serious?

  11. orlando

I’m the first one to post this link. That means I win the internets today!

  12. tigtog

Hmph *posted it to FB and the twitters last night, was saving it for this week’s otterday* *haz been sending L emails about it all morning* *sulk*

  13. tigtog

Mind you, it’s going gangbusters and being linked everywhere, so maybe waiting until Saturday was always going to not work. */sulk*

Also Germaine Greer’s comments about the Prime Minister’s “big arse” and bad dress sense – ugh, Germaine. I used to respect you.

  15. tigtog

Yes, I found Greer’s comments horrendously jarring. Not that I was entirely surprised that she’d say something jarring, but otherwise that Q&A panel was rather amusing.

  16. Chally

Oh, Hoydens and Hoydenizens, am I having a week. Please supply alcohol and a clone to go about the rest of it for me.

I am also wondering: what is the longest book you have ever read?

  17. Wildly Parenthetical

Hmm. It’s a week here, too, Chally. A global phenomenon?

  18. Jo

I think this week must be universally horrible. I am just about done with being a feminist this week, because no matter what, you cannot win and end up crying on your bed in a little ball because people you thought were decent people are actually arseholes.

    *hugs Chally*

  19. tigtog

*raises hand for the having of a week right now*

  20. Chally

    *hugs for all*

  21. StuffedO

This week is definitely universally horrible.
I woke up this morning with the cat biting my face and cat pee everywhere, which pretty much reflected how the rest of the week has been going.
Let’s skip the rest and jump to next week.

  22. Aqua, of the Questioners

This week has been acceptable so far here, but I’ll be keeping a close eye on it now!

And Chally: I believe the longest book I’ve read is A Suitable Boy by Vikram Seth. He himself recommends breaking the paperback into sections for portability and convenience.

  23. Kirstente

Last week was a week. This week is a little better. But I’m still feeling overwhelmed by patriarchy. I would just like a little holiday in feminist utopia, please.

    Hugs to everyone.

Chally- I read War and Peace a few months ago. I think reading it on Kindle made it easier.
