Happy June Solstice all! Merry Yule/Litha* to those who celebrate the circling of the seasons. As regular readers know, I tend to post a photo of Stonehenge every solstice, just because. This year, while looking for a picture, I discovered that artist JonathonJeremy Deller has created a feature installation which is an enormous bouncy Stonehenge (titled Sacrilege).

Deller’s marvellous creation will shortly be travelling to London as part of the public festivities surrounding the 2012 Olympic Games.
ObAstrogeek: Solstice this year happens at 23.08 UTC/GMT JulyJune 20th, which is 9.08 AEST JulyJune 21st. In case anybody wants to know, here’s a Northron-centric explanation of why the hottest weather doesn’t happen on the longest day.
* For the Southron pagans, this time of year marks the celebration of Yule (longest night/Midwinter). For the Northron pagans, it’s the festival of Litha (longest day/Midsummer).
