That post is hilarious – but there appears to be some product placement going on (*ct*va yoghurt).

I have been known to buy carrots from Coles – I’m time poor, please don’t judge me – and just saw a post on FB from a friend who’s a big health nut and juices a lot; he says Coles carrots juiced taste of chemical. Sigh. I do walk around worrying about food a lot – just cut out a lot of treats which I’ve discovered contain trans fats and/or palm oil.

Helen, when you asterix out all the letters of a word except ct and va, it looks as if you are talking about much ruder things than you are.

Love.It. I was inspired to look at the rest of her blog and have now asked my other half to cook this for dinner: http://www.nwedible.com/2011/02/good-from-garden-leeks.html

That was delightful! Perfect ending too, only Jaime Lee Curtis was missing.

Easy fix. Live on chocolate! :P

I get my fruit and veggies from a local greengrocer as much as possible. Sometimes they taste better than Coles or Woolworths stuff, sometimes not, but at least it’s supporting a smaller local business and their suppliers. As for the whole weight-loss or healthy eating thing … well, I was diagnosed with NAFLD (non-alcoholic fatty liver disease) earlier this year. It’s treated through diet and exercise aiming at gradual weight loss. All I’ve done is make my sandwiches more salady and stop eating frozen dinners (which I had a couple of times a week). It’s working!

Hi! Glad you liked this post, thanks for recommending it! I wrote it. Activa doesn’t pay me shit. My normal fodder is stuff like “how to make your own yogurt at home.” :) I run a completely reader-supported blog. I just think Activa is funny cause it represents everything that is most commercialized in fake health food. Rest assured, no money was made off your chuckles. Have a great day and thanks again!

I loved that, although it did remind me of the following lovely little bit of doggerel:

    Methuselah’s Diet

Methuselah ate what he found on his plate,
And never, as people do now,
Did he note the amount of the calorie count.
He ate it because it was chow.

He wasn’t disturbed as at dinner he sat,
Devouring a roast or a pie,
To think it was lacking in granular fat
Or a couple of vitamins shy.

He cheerfully chewed each species of food,
    Unmindful of troubles or fears
Lest his health might be hurt by some fancy dessert,
And he lived over 900 years.

(Written by that truly prolific bard, Anon, who at the time was working as a copywriter in the US advertising industry, employed on behalf of various packaging companies).

Megpie, love that Methuselah poem! And your blog, too. That ‘reduce deaths’ line always gets me. Totally absurd. The death rate is 100%, end of story. The likelihood of dying younger from such-and-such a cause may be reduced by doing this or that, but that’s all.

As someone who switched from soy to oat milk after reading about what high levels of soy can potentially do in some of my other online communities, and who tries to buy and eat mindfully, I laughed long and loud and promptly shared this on facebook.
