    I feel a caption competition coming on…

From a Bill Bailey sketch on immigration into Australia:

“Have you ever made a nest among marshland, have you ever lived for a time as a hermit or wildman? Have you ever misdirected a hen to an incorrect location? Have you ever left a country gate slightly ajar… Have you ever made this face: *insert otterface here*”

Heh! I can’t find a pic of BB doing the otterface online ~sadtrombone~

I’ve been meaning to write a proper review for a couple of weeks now, and maybe I still will, but I’ll just drop a quick note here/now: I really enjoyed the new Terry Pratchett novel Dodger. It’s not a Discworld novel, it’s alternate history with Charles Dickens in Victorian London meeting an impressive young chap nicknamed Dodger, and as the backdrop to the complicated but satisfying action there’s loads of detail on the oppression and sufferings of the poor and how that suffering was perpetuated by the status quo of the time.

I took this last week off work and we had a family holiday in Victor Harbor for a few days. It was a bit warmer than we expected and Mr angharad and I got mild sunburns. What I don’t get is why we got sunburned and Red-headed Boy remained as white as milk. Does 50cm closer to the sky really make that much difference?

And then we came back to discover that my father-in-law had fallen prey to one of those scammers who ring up and tell you they need to fix your computer.

Clearly someone needs to send Bill Bailey that otter picture and challenge him to pull the same face…

That otter is fabbo, it may have a career in show business.

Interesting article about how Saudi Arabia’s laws affecting women also affects Muslim women from other countries.

Alan Jones dives down beyond low expectations, claiming that PM Gillard’s father “died of shame” over her:

Have spent the afternoon avoiding sporty things by watching David Attenborough specials for his 50 years in broadcasting (a few years old now) on BBC Knowledge – afternoon well spent!

Is it just me, or does that otter look like he’s showing his mates exactly how he felt on the occasion of seeing a comely, bosomy, lady otter? I mean, the paws look like they’re prepared to squeeze otter bosoms and then make a honking noise with his mouth.

Lol Arcadia, perfect interpretation! Did you study Art History, perchance … ?

Has anyone read ‘in one person’ by John Irving? I’m about 1/3 through and I’m not sure what to make of it so far.

  10. Sunset

ollie, I find it hard to keep track of what my partner is reading since he got a Kindle, but he was muttering disappointedly about Irving the other day.

Ha that sounds ominous. I was expecting great things: I’ve never read any Irving but I know lots of people who swear by him, and I’d heard all about this amazing bisexual protagonist – and so far, it’s been a bit of a let down. I’m also distressed by the use of the word “tr***y” :-( I don’t know, perhaps it’ll pick up. I’m not convinced though.

Picures of a woman shoeing horses. As a profession it is small but good ones are in demand. (And seem to live forever, the one who shod our horses when I was young was about 90 not out)
