Librans? Are you lot into astrology?

  2. tigtog

No, I’m into rude filks about wizards (nb long instrumental introduction – the words don’t come until about 1 minute in).

  3. tigtog

I’m also into more philosophical filks: The Piano Ape

    Words fail me..

All this esoterica, way too much for a bucolic rustic lad.
    Ah, yes, librarians.
ABC does a sitcom on them, sort of “Dad’s Army” or “Are You Being Served” wearing half-moons. Type of show a dysfunctional person can watch with a degree of relief because it diverts to the proposition that a supposedly more competent class of people are even more dysfunctional.
Whoodah thunk you could raise any laugh out of librarians, let alone a fair few in one program?

    Have a good day.

    @tigtog – I prefer the hedgehog song myself ;-)

I didn’t want to startle Paul too early, angharad.

Angharad, that is a very, eh, Welsh name isn’t it?
    Sort of like Rhiannon?

  8. tigtog

Paul, so far you are severely lacking in the purveying of whimsy department.

There’s no uncertainty about it whatsoever. It is a completely Welsh name. In fact it was the most popular Welsh woman’s name in the 13th century. Sadly I am not remotely Welsh. Although I was in an earthquake there once.

I’ll have you know I was forced, FORCED, I tell you, to sing the Piano Ape aloud to my husband just now. Well, it seemed necessary anyway.

  11. tigtog

Marvellous. I’m terribly pleased to have provoked that.

xkcd is always good for some whimsy, but here is one that brings a couple of blog interests together.

Is it only me who thought of the programming language when I saw “Ook! Ook?” in the title?

The People’s Bailout – A Rolling Jubilee brought to the US by Occupy Wall Street. They’re crowdsourcing donations and buying up ‘distressed debt’ (i.e. the bank has written it down and sold it cheaply to debt collectors) and then they’re forgiving the debt. Medical bills, student loans, etc –

Like many folks, Occupy Wall Street has been some doing good work in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, helping people on the ground.

Now OWS is launching the ROLLING JUBILEE, a program that has been in development for months. OWS is going to start buying distressed debt (medical bills, student loans, etc.) in order to forgive it. As a test run, we spent $500, which bought $14,000 of distressed debt. We then ERASED THAT DEBT. (If you’re a debt broker, once you own someone’s debt you can do whatever you want with it — traditionally, you hound debtors to their grave trying to collect. We’re playing a different game. A MORE AWESOME GAME.)

This is a simple, powerful way to help folks in need — to free them from heavy debt loads so they can focus on being productive, happy and healthy. As you can see from our test run, the return on investment approaches 30:1. That’s a crazy bargain!

Read the whole post. I love this idea.

Did somebody just say something? I can’t quite hear it over the noise of the accumulated awesome, sorry.

I just put this pic up on the Media Circus thread for topical discussion, but I think it belongs in the brain bleach repository too.

I was a bit surprised when I saw it on TV that the Gillard, Clinton and their media advisors would set up a photo opportunity like that. This sort of stuff doesn’t happen by mistake, someone planned it, its the message they want sent out.

  22. tigtog

You could well be right, Chris, but don’t you think your comment should have gone on the Media Circus thread iteration of the photo instead of this one?

    tigtog – oh yes, sorry!
