tigtog (aka Viv) lives in Sydney, Australia: husband, 2 kids, cat, house, garden, just enough wine-racks and (sigh) far too few bookshelves. You can read more about Viv on her bio page.

    Doubleyou. Tee. Eff.

How does this even make sense?

“We are part of the Bush administration, so we have to make sure that all parts of the story are told,” says Jordan. “The administration’s policy is definitely anti-abortion, and the administration does not see abortion as a part of family planning policy.”

In a spectacular application of the Law of Unintended Consequences, this sort of block would also block searches for information on spontaneous abortion – i.e., miscarriage.

    Yay for librarians.

Libraries have been pretty pissed off about Bush Era policies for a while now.

The patriot act gives the government access to your library user history – without needing a warrant to do so. Libraries weren’t too happy about this.

Plus, keeping track of user/book histories takes up a lot of server space.

Most libraries (as far as I know) simply stop keeping records on user/book histories once the books has been checked in – assuming it was turned in on time. It saves the libraries money and makes it less likely that the government will use libraries to violate citizens’ due process rights.
