Ken Parish of Club Troppo has just introduced what he calls the Tropposphere. The Tropposphere is a Clayton’s feedreader of selected news, opinion, and analysis.
The aim is to aggregate the “best or most popular” Australian blogs who “consistently publish interesting posts” (as judged by the Missing Link editorial team), with a smattering of international blogs and news sites thrown in for good measure. The non-news categories include opinion (divided into left-leaning, right-leaning, and centrist), polling, politics, arts, economics, law, and alternative media.
Then let me know whether you’re noticing what, to me, stood out like a sore thumb.
What sticking out for me is that I didn’t see anyone I recognised linked in. I’m not the Queen of the Australian Blogosphere, but to have none of the women’s voices I’m used to being part of it? Maybe I missed them.

Gosh. Not that I am all that familiar with the Australian blogosphere yet, but not only are there no feminist blogs there, but as far as I can tell, there aren’t even any blogs by women!
Clearly girleez can’t think, can’t write and don’t count.
For that matter, neither does New Zealand, despite it being one of Australia’s larger markets….

Today’s Apathetic Youth is Sarah, but that’s the only woman’s blog I counted in the lefty blogs and it’s not immediately obvious what gender the writer is. To be fair, though, I haven’t checked out the righty blogs yet. (Legless Rachy? Scepticlawyer?)
There’s also Amanda the country music death beast on the list so far and skepticlawyer & legal eagle’s blog in the legal category.
I’ll cop to encouraging inter-blog hostility at Troppo—I’m sorry, but not very sorry.
Yes. I counted a good six or seven woman-”headed” blogs, including them, and there were three or four more I wasn’t sure of.
“Hostility”? I’m not sure why (or if) this post is being considered hostile or nasty. It’s not gratuitous, it’s not hateful or spiteful; just an eyeroll at a replay of something we see a brazillion times a year all around the blogosphere.
Lauredhel, it’s only optimism on my part that sees hostility. I’m just a fan of cross-blog stoush.
And for the second time this week, I find myself saying “Sorry to disappoint” when someone else was looking for a stoush. Where’s my bolsh? Where’s my strop? Should I be concerned?
