The Chronicle Herald reports that a pair of Canadian lads organised a demonstration of solidarity with a boy who was being tormented by bullies – for wearing pink.

A gang of arsehats had been harassing the younger pink-wearing boy. They jeered at him with pointed insults like “homosexual” (because that’s the worst retort a knuckle-dragging teenager can think up), and threatened to assault him.

So David and Travis decided to do something about it. Instead of the usual procedure of beating on the bullies to “teach them a lesson”, they chose a show of solidarity for their victim. They bought 75 pink tank tops and assorted other pink gear (a basketball, armbands) and handed them out in the school before class. The student body eagerly embraced the protest, with over 400 of them taking to the pink gear.

The bullies were so incensed at the sea of pink that they not only threw dirty looks, one actually freaked out and started throwing chairs around. That’s some fragile masculinity he’s got there.

David said one of the bullies angrily asked him whether he knew pink on a male was a symbol of homosexuality. He told the bully that didn’t matter to him and shouldn’t to anyone.

“Something like the colour of your shirt or pants, that’s ridiculous,” he said. “Our intention was to stand up for this kid so he doesn’t get picked on.”
