Yet another Dickwolves post

Yet another Dickwolves post

By tigtog on February 5, 2011

[TW: rape culture] Don’t know about it yet? You’re lucky. Here’s a timeline. Geek Feminism and Shakesville have multiple posts on how Penny Arcade fucked up not so much with just(!) an insensitive rape joke in their webcomic, but with their mockingly dismissive responses (and how that played into their fans’ responses) to people’s objections to that webcomic.

This is why the "it's just sci-fi, it shouldn't have to be PC" argument is crap

This is why the “it’s just sci-fi, it shouldn’t have to be PC” argument is crap

I mean how am I supposed to feel if I see a movie set in the future and there aren’t any black or brown people in it? How is a child supposed to feel? It’s like someone’s saying, “I don’t like you and I don’t want you to be here, so I’m creating a world where you don’t exist.”

Matthew Garrett on ally work and the Linux community

By Lauredhel on July 23, 2008

Matthew Garrett gave this brief talk encouraging geeks to be vocal feminists/feminist allies, at LUGradio Live UK 2008 (LRLUK 2008). One reference in his “Community Hate Time” talk is to the “upskirt” photo published by Nicu Buculei at Planet Fedora a couple of weeks ago, which we discussed here at Hoyden. {Sorry about the sound. Some weekend reading

Some weekend reading

By tigtog on February 23, 2008

Firstly, the obligatory funny picture: From ICHC Dave at Orcinus: If conservatives really, really hate being called fascists … #6 … then maybe they ought to quit talking like them. Suzanne Kleid at McSweeney: ABSTINENCE-ONLY DRIVER’S ED: stamping out unbridled premarital driving. Miriam at Feministing: Want the good news or the bad news first? (for [...]
