They would not condone the 'different but complementary and equal' stand; they would not accept the 'one rule for men and another for women' position, be it in relation to the public or private arena. Women had just as many rights in the workplace and men had just as many responsibilities in domestic terms. Without benefit of the modern vernacular, most anarchist--feminists subscribed to the thesis that all human beings have a right to work, to obtain financial independence, and to enter sexual relationships as equals, and that all human beings were responsible for their own shit-work! This was why it was necessary to restructure the nuclear family completely and to reorganized the household division of labour; and this was where the responsibility for children became a considerable stumbling block.

Many of the male anarchists did not share the women's view on some of these matters; these 'radical men' - in what could be termed classic style- found it advantageous to facilitate the greater sexual availability of women but inconvenient for the business of daily maintainance.
