Virtual Travelling: Halloween mosaic

By tigtog on November 3, 2009

OK, this is almost certainly the last Halloween post for the year – not bad for a country where it’s not meant to be that big of a deal! I just really enjoy the creativity that Halloween inspires in some people, particularly the jack-o-lantern carvers (sure, computer-based patterns for carving have simplified the craft, but it’s still a lot of work).

Virtual travelling: who can choose?

By tigtog on August 4, 2009

I just realised it was absolutely ages since I did a faves mosaic, of stuff that I’ve faved on Flickr lately. (I blame Anna’s sharing of the “cute otters” tag on Flickr entirely for the otter-heavy portion near the top). A couple of the shots have lost essential bits in being auto-cropped to a square [...]

Virtual Travelling: Great Court, British Museum, London

By tigtog on July 14, 2009

Great Court, British Museum, London, originally uploaded by stephenk1977. The BM was a highlight of my last trip to London, particularly this gorgeous new roof over the Great Court. But when I went it was a grey and rainy, so I didn’t get to see this fabulous grid of shadows that photographer Stephen K saw [...]

Virtual travelling: bubbles!

By tigtog on December 17, 2008

From one young photographer’s project: Things that I like to do…with bubbles All photos above originally uploaded by Honey Pie! This reminded my of how much fun I used to have with bubbles when I was a kid and when my kids were younger. I remember when travelling on a ferry in Hong Kong many [...]

Virtual travelling: Xmas coming earlier every year

By tigtog on November 18, 2008

Its beginning to look a lot like Christmas from Maureen F. (Toronto, Canada) Anyone seeing decorations round your neighborhood yet? They arrived in our supermarket & shopping mall a few weeks ago (before Halloween!, as is typically maddening, but I haven’t seen anything in people’s windows yet. My parents did surprise me by saying they [...]

Virtual Travelling: Sculpture By the Sea, Tamarama Beach

By tigtog on November 11, 2008

keep me grounded…, originally uploaded by ~ geisha ~. I only went once this year, and it was bright and sunny and it was a Saturday so there were hordes of people, so no time to compose shots properly. I didn’t get down to do a sunrise shot, although I meant to. Luckily geisha went [...]

Virtual Travelling: Sunset at Rhossili Bay, The Gower

By tigtog on November 4, 2008

Slow Worm, originally uploaded by Sean Bolton. The rocky outcrop offshore is the Worm’s Head, “wyrm” being the Old Welsh term for “dragon”. Rhossili Bay is a great place for sunset shots – here’s one from more towards the northern end, closer to the town of Llangennith: Rhossili was one of our favourite “big” Sunday [...]

Virtual Travelling: Barack O’ Lantern

By tigtog on October 28, 2008

Barack O’ Lantern, originally uploaded by Aidenag. My largest pumpkin carving endeavor ever. I took the Shepard Fairey designed poster, put it in CS, made it 3 shades in B&W and resized it to 8×10. Used carbon paper to etch the pattern onto the pumpkin, then used an exacto knife(man i wish i had dremel [...]

Virtual Travelling: Pause for Reflection, wherever we are

By tigtog on October 21, 2008

It’s always irresistible when travelling with a camera, isn’t it? Any gorgeous reflections that you happen upon. Of course, some of the shots below have been meticulously planned by shutterbugs who know their local area and its lighting intimately. All photos found via Flickr Explore & a search for “reflections”. So, where have you been [...]

Virtual Travelling: Bristol UK graffiti

By tigtog on October 14, 2008

8/10/08, originally uploaded by emmdee. Emmdee managed to capture the artist putting up this huge stencilled work last week. Obviously the owner of the wall has given full permission (perhaps even commissioned the work?) I wonder whether occasional Hoydenizen (and LP blogger) mick has seen it yet? But what’s the astronaut carrying? There’s a shot [...]

Virtual Travelling: baby love

By tigtog on October 7, 2008

This week’s photo sent me travelling back in time: How well I remember that utter fascination with those tiny limbs and their perfection, the wonder that this gorgeous new person had come from our flesh. It’s just as well that hormones and instincts cause this total infatuation with infant offspring, otherwise none of us would [...]

Virtual Travelling: Florida

By tigtog on September 30, 2008

girl power, originally uploaded by KarensJilly.     a fanciful day ~ it was a perfect day for jump roping in the clouds. Uploaded by KarensJilly KarensJilly takes gorgeous photos, mostly of her daughter (an obvious hoyden in training!). The two above are just the latest from her photostream – I also love these two [...]

Virtual Travelling: Portland, Oregon

By tigtog on September 23, 2008

Overhead Circle of Fire, originally uploaded by Mr. Monroe. The story behind this picture of a fire dancer can be read at Matthew’s blog, where the photographer writes about his enduring fascination with fire. In summary, the entire photo shoot involved a lot of standing around in the cold murky water of the Willamette during [...]
