Star Trek: Into Darkness poster

Racebending on Star Trek Into Darkness

By tigtog on May 15, 2013

Regular readers of this blog may have noticed that I’m a big fan of the Cumberbatch, and I thoroughly enjoyed his performance as the villain in the latest Star Trek movie so long as I could forget his character’s name:

Do you want your airline encouraging strangers to use their inflight “entertainment” system to send their fellow passengers unsolicited gifts of drinks or food (with all the accompanying expectations) in a metal cage high in the air from which there is no way out?

Eyeroll du jour: Dawkins Dawkins Dawkins

By tigtog on March 19, 2013

Don’t have time to delve deep on uber-atheist Richard Dawkins tweeting on the ethics of abortion with no reference at all to the person in whose womb the pregnancy would be happening, thought I’d let you at it.

WTF is Chris Brown thinking?

Chris Brown Tattoos An Image that looks like a Battered Woman On His Neck – of course he’s denying that it’s Rihanna or even a battered woman at all.

That Reddit rapist thread

That Reddit rapist thread

By tigtog on July 30, 2012

[Content note: rape culture, sexual violence] Liss put up a counter-thread at Shakesville for rape-survivors and allies to talk about their reactions in a safe-space.

Take-home message: beware micro-manipulations as part of a flirt routine – if warning bells are ringing, trust the jangling of our spidey-senses.

Glenn Beck has a shiny new toy. He has had a 20 year old movie set of the Oval Office refurbished so that he can use it for a special weekly broadcast to the nation.

Because an injured sex worker is just hilarious

Because an injured sex worker is just hilarious

By tigtog on November 3, 2010

UPDATE: OK, it looks like I misheard this one. The story wasn’t about a sex worker at all, it was about a public servant seeking worker’s compensation for an injury sustained during a sexual encounter at a work-related conference. This does put a different perspective on the joke and the reaction.

Jerks and those who do not challenge them

Clueless quote of the day via Blaghag, blogging on why women don’t come to atheist meetings after a conversation that ended with this:

“What? It’s not harassment since we’re not in a workplace.”

Quickhit #2: that chocolate frog

By tigtog on November 16, 2009

The worst thing is the racial subtext to this whole thing. Indigenous children are vastly overrepresented in gaols.

Hey, Hey it’s offensive in Australia too

By blue milk on October 9, 2009

Remember when something as outrageously racist as a minstrel show was considered funny? Mainstream funny, not white supremacist funny? No, me neither. That kind of cruelty was a long, long time ago. Or so we thought. Then this week a 1980s variety television show called Hey Hey It’s Saturday came back on air for a [...]
