All our relationships, not just partnerings
Quick fact about women in the news: apparently, women feature in only about a fifth of the world’s news headlines and just ten percent of all news stories. (My guess is that if you took celebrities out of the media monitoring survey you could probably halve that number again for how often women make the news).
And when women finally make the news in what capacity do we make it?
Mateship is a bond so sacred we want it recognised in the Australian Constitution but female friendship is something nasty and undermining. Apparently this is because female friendships are distracted by competition for men.
Oh, this kind of shit doth weary me.
So how about a thread where we share some fun pop culture moments about weddings (or non-weddings) that avoid the Consumerist Fantasy Wedding tropes? I’ll start off with Fred Astaire dancing on the ceiling:

Clueless quote of the day via Blaghag, blogging on why women don’t come to atheist meetings after a conversation that ended with this:

Sometimes I will be visiting a friend (and it could be any one of many); and we will be as thick as thieves – curled up in couches and laughing, sipping tea and juggling children, when her husband will arrive home. What part exactly of “any punitive damages portion of up to 37 million dollars awarded by the court will be donated to charity” and “a private settlement of less than a million dollars does not include the originally sought-after punitive damages” are so many people finding so difficult to compute?
