Everything about the way that our pundits are demonising boat-arriving asylum seekers while pumping out crocodile tears over drowned families is disingenuous,the way that most of our politicians are pandering to them is despicable, and the debate this week is framed around not even asking the right questions. Please share your bouquets and brickbats for particular items in the mass media, or highlight cogent analysis elsewhere, on any current sociopolitical issue.

I really like Feministe, I think the site produces some amazing writing, and I appreciate Mamamia for seeking to incorporate feminism in a mainstream, commercial motherhood site because that isn’t easy, but oh my god… We’re surprised, as feminists, that some of you are not more suspicious of lines of debate designed to isolate us and make us defensive.

Maybe, if we’re being scrupulously generous, it might be only one journalist who made up the anti-Gillard spin, and all the rest just copied it instead of viewing the primary source material. Still doesn’t speak much of their ethics, does it?
