All our relationships, not just partnerings
I’m rather liking the rethink-V-day activism around this year, which has ended up being a bit more substantive than some of the Anti-Valentine hating that I’ve seen around in other years. How about doing something positive/useful/affirming instead? Create rather than consume, or raise awareness about the limited ways we think about romance.
If we use the intentions and feelings of privileged people to determine when bigotry occurs, you will find that no one is bigoted by that definition.
The mere thought of living alone once sparked anxiety, dread and visions of loneliness. But those images are dated. Now the most privileged people on earth use their resources to separate from one another, to buy privacy and personal space. Indeed, living alone seems to encourage more, not less, social interaction.
There are some tough questions here, but also, some solid suggestions on what can be done to improve big feminist sites like Feministe for the people outside of mainstream power bases.
