Maybe, if we’re being scrupulously generous, it might be only one journalist who made up the anti-Gillard spin, and all the rest just copied it instead of viewing the primary source material. Still doesn’t speak much of their ethics, does it?

So what else is going on in Canberra? Or the state capitals? Or your local council? Are they all on the austerity bandwagon, having drunk the Austrian Kool-Aid like the Dems in the USA? Or is something progressive/constructive actually going on in your part of the world?

In 1968, some activists demonstrated against the Miss America beauty pageant and threw objects of “female oppression” – bras, high-heeled shoes, girdles, curlers – into a trash can. They were arguing about liberation – there was never any bra-burning – but the myth of the feminist as a bra-burner was created by the western media.
There was also a crucial word missed in the description of the trashed bras.
Disdain for “political correctness” is often positioned as a concern that some important truth is not being spoken for fear of offending someone. But that concern is nothing but smoke and mirrors.
