While Palin remains a libertarian she’s not helping the fight against sexist or any other sort of oppression, so whether she calls herself a feminist or not, she’s not on my side.

As a “sex addict”, you can obviously get away with a lot more than some girl who is merely a slutty slut, and enhance your fame and reputation as a wild playboy at the same time. And if you’re a popular male comedian checking into rehab for your Sex Addiction, then you are suffering from a Condition and deserve sympathy, unlike the disgusting hoydens who are destroying Western civilisation with their wanton behaviour.

Friday Hoyden: Annie Lennox

I can’t remember when I wasn’t a fan of Annie Lennox. That glorious voice and the amazing style of her costumes and performances, that sense of gracious absurdity, fierce compassion and joyous gravitas. She has always stood out.

Detached irony or cultural cringe?

I’m hugely ambivalent about the “ironic” burlesque revival – it’s still nearly always only female bodies on display, with the many fabulous male performers pushed to the showbiz margins of inner-city gay clubs and occasional hen’s nights while the burlesque girls venture regularly into mainstream suburban pubs, where they consciously drop the most confronting pieces from the run-sheet because they figure that the audience out there* won’t get/doesn’t want those anyway.
