I thought the BoobyWall was objectifying and tacky. I thought “Save the Ta-Tas” was dehumanising, and missed the point badly. I thought the “every mouthful” nipple-water-bottles were eyeroll-worthy. I thought that instructing us that if only cismen had boobs, they’d… Read More ›

Faves: Bodies, Breasts ‘n’ Birth edition
Hoyden About Town is looking forward to the finalist voting in the 2008 Weblog Awards. Because it’s school holidays and tigtog and I are family-focussed right now, I’ve put together a few of my posts from the past, in the categories Feminism, Breasts, bodies and birth, Bad science, Big pharma, and Disability. They’re not chosen for any strict criteria – just the posts I found memorable, the ones linked a lot, the ones that attracted lots of comments. I’m not sure whether tigtog will find time to do the same (but I hope so!) This should be fun for relative newcomers to Hoyden About Town as well as for people cruising the Weblog Awards nominees.
If you have a favourite Hoyden post, do please feel free to add it in comments for the appropriate category. Enjoy.

Backpedalling and finger pointing while spinning like a top
It’s finally sunk in, apparently, that the long-claimed link between having an abortion and breast cancer simply doesn’t stand up to rigorous scrutiny. Forced-birthers are backing away from the claim that there is a direct link BUT don’t cheer too… Read More ›
Plucked from the wire: blogs are dead, dancing boobies, detention debt, NSW health, and Oz net use
Blogging is dead, long live multimedia-sharing and Twitter Wired says blogs are dead. Blah blah linkbait, blah blah everyone’s on Twitter these days, blah blah. Read it if you can be bothered. Most amusing moment: the author complains that blogs… Read More ›
Mount Franklin Breast Cancer ads. Let’s start a Brown Colon Cancer Awareness campaign.
Oh, for fuck’s sake. The latest in the Mmm, Sexy Pink Breast Cancer! Save The Boobies Awareness sweepstakes comes from Mount Franklin, purveyors of pointless, wasteful, plastic-ridden, environmentally unfriendly bottled water. They’ve been doing the pink lids for a while,… Read More ›
“Bring breast awareness back to the workplace”
Remember Rethink? With all their huh-huh-boobies advertisements? Rethink, who thinks that the main focus of “breast cancer awareness” should be sexualised breasts and men? They’re at it again. This time, they’re exhorting us to “Bring breast awareness back into the… Read More ›
