Rape myths, rape myth acceptance, and community perceptions of victims of sexual violence

Elsewhere, grave doubt was expressed that attitudes of holding women responsible for sexual violence directed towards them was in fact a popular community view, to the extent that a position paper from an academic conference was mercilessly mocked for this sentence:

Women who are raped or who suffer domestic violence are somehow thought of in the popular imagination as a stereotype. According to this, the women are asking for it, dressed inappropriately, provoking it – responsible for it.

Responses to Bettina

There were a number of great responses to the blather put out by Bettina on sex in marriage and women’s “fragile” libidos and I have gathered together a few of them here for those that may not have seen them. There are quite a few people out there who don’t agree with Bettina, and gosh they write well. Enjoy.

Gricers in the Mist

Taken yesterday at the Zig Zag heritage railway, near Lithgow, NSW. A gricer is a steam locomotive enthusiast, and my husband has been one since childhood. He got to ride on the footplate back up the mountain, so he won’t stop smiling about that for at least a week.

This shot was taken as they purged the boilers to get rid of waste sludge.
