The Inauguration Will Be LiveBlogChatted
Edit 20 Jan: Just bumping this up as a reminder. Are there any more regular/known-to-me Hoydenizens willing to be added as panellists? The upside, for you, is that your comments will be put through to the liveblogchat window immediately. The downside is that I’ll ask you to help with approving guest comments through. If you can only be there for part of it, that’s fine too.
Post-Holiday Linkdump
I’m back from holiday! Not quite back on board and blogging up a storm, but I thought I’d linkdump for some Sunday night reading for you.
One of our fellow Best Midsize Blog finalists, Zomblog, is surprised and/or confused that some Muslim people are also gay activists. (Comments warning.) This rainbow-flavoured button reads “Allah is Good/Allah is Gay/Gay Islam”.

Things annoying me today
Firstly this headline “Ten-year-olds given permission to marry”. It’s not about ten year olds wanting to get married, it’s about ten year old girls being given to fifty year old men as wives. FFS MSM tell it like it really is.
Admittedly, I don’t know a lot of ten year olds at the moment, but remembering back when I was ten I wasn’t in any hurry to get married, and certainly
Otterday, and Open Thread
These Cape clawless otters were photographed on the Uitsig Peninsula in South Africa. Read more at the Zandvlei Trust, which does environmental work along the False Bay Coast wetlands, near Cape Town.
Tigtog and I are both going to be more family-focussed for the next week or two, so Hoyden About Town will be a bit quiet for a while. Please feel free
Ask Auntie Hoyden: “she swallowed my cork”
It’s time for another…. Ask Auntie Hoyden! Dontcha just love these search-terms posts? Well, I do, so if you don’t, move along, nothing to see here.
How do googlers find their way here? Most of the time they’re obviously searching for porn. Horrible, demeaning, often illegal porn. But once I’ve cut out most of that, the rest of the searchers are a source of endless amusement, diversion, curiosity, and sometimes pathos. Here are some of the search terms googlers have entered recently to end up at Hoyden About Town. Many of them didn’t find what they were looking for. And I’ve taken the liberty of answering a few googlers’ questions.
Linkfest
This is dubious. “Bronze Boy Holding a Girl Up“, at Overstock.

Faves: Disability
Hoyden About Town is looking forward to the finalist voting in the 2008 Weblog Awards. I’ve put together a few of my posts from the past, in the categories Feminism, Breasts, bodies and birth, Bad science, Big pharma, and Disability. They’re not chosen for any strict criteria – just the posts I found memorable, the ones linked a lot, the ones that attracted lots of comments.

Linkfest: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
The Good Mothers in Medicine: “Getting In the Sterile Field”, by Tempeh. The topic verges on glurge, but it’s well-written and non-cliche enough to bite. Or maybe I’m just susceptible right now. Make up your own mind. As you can… Read More ›
