Blast from the past alert

Over the next few weeks, starting tomorrow (December 1st), we shall be padding out our normal blogging during the xmasolstichanukkwanzaa etc increased-social-obligations period with some reposts of older articles from the first years of this blog.

DUFC Reminder

It’s nearly the end of November, which means that submissions close for this month’s Down Under Feminist Carnival in just a few days, and it will be published here at HaT next weekend. Have you submitted your favourite Antipodean Blogger’s post from this month yet?

Signal Boost: Carnival Reminders

Firstly, the next Down Under Feminist Carnival…Secondly, a new carnival: the inaugural Blog Carnival of Mental Health is being organised right now.

Anybody got any other carnivals they’d like to plug?

On Being Fat in Public, and Beyond Responding to Hate

Being fat in public is, so often, a political act, but just as often it’s an almost inescapable act. As a woman of colour who is often read as white, and a queer woman in a relationship with a man, these aspects of my identity are, in many cases (though not all, because so often it’s heavily dependant upon the ‘audience’), not as front-and-centre visible. My fat, however, is always here, with me.

FYI: about those unsolicited guest post offers

I don’t care what that SEO manual is telling you about how offering your guest posts to other bloggers (on condition that there’s a link back to your blog) is a fine and dandy way to increase your readership and your search engine ranking. If you’ve never even left a single comment attempting to engage with our commenting community, then asking us to publish a post of yours on spec is simply downright rude.

Bitch PhD closes down

I saw some sad news when I clicked on one of my favourite blogs yesterday. Bitch, PhD is closing down.

The signs were there. Posts from my favourite BPhD writers have been thin on the ground this year. This has been one of my go-to group blogs since 2004, and has been one of the feminist blogs which has helped me work out my own feminism.
