Schoolboys to be offered cervical cancer vaccine Gardasil to stamp out human papilloma virus
The Therapeutic Goods Administration last week approved Gardasil for use on males up to the age of 26.
It is the first step towards a government-funded vaccine rollout for 12 and 13-year-old boys.
In the US, the FDA is yet to approve Gardasil for use on males at all, let alone as part of a public vaccination program. Cynics suggest that this might be because the HPV vaccine for boys will have most cancer prevention benefit for homosexually active males.

Woohoo! This is great news. π
Hey guys, just FYI, the FDA has approved this, itβs the CDC that has not, at least from what I can see.
Thanks for the clarification, Josh.
Excellent news. It bugged me enormously that this vaccine was only for women. The HPV is a sexually transmitted virus. Not including boys in this campaign straight away seemed pretty illogical.
Another thing that concerns me is that this vaccine is marketed as an anti-cervical cancer vaccine implying that this vaccine will eradicate cervical cancer. Cervical cancer is not only caused by the HPV.
