Today’s otter is coming at you from The Daily Otter.(again) This is part of a series of photos on unizoo showing otters playing with stones a la an old-fashioned deportment school.
Please feel free to use this thread to natter about anything your heart desires. Is there anything great happening in your life? Anything you want to get off your chest? Reading a good book (or a bad one)? Anything in the news that you’d like to discuss? What have you created lately? Commiserations, felicitations, temptations, contemplations, speculations?

Soggy here, innit?
In memoriam: Diana Rigg
Getting out the ‘yes’
100 books by women in 2016
Was just compelled to accuse my child of being unAustralian because she didn’t remember that the long weekend for the Queen’s birthday was in June – where did I go wrong?
Chris Clarke on Twitter: “Scott Adams defends self as sockpuppet on Metafilter. Hole he’s dug approaching Earth’s mantle.” Link: http://tinyurl.com/3q4v8zo (Adams is “Plannedchaos”.) This is getting excruciating to watch.
*TW mental illness stigma and health discussion*
As usual, people are wrong on the internet.
Namely, the response to Catherine Zeta-Jones’ announcement regarding her treatment for Bipolar II disorder. Some have taken the fact that there is more than one type of Bipolar disorder* to mean that the whole thing is hokum made up by Big Pharma and people of weak disposition, while others are certain that she is just covering up substance abuse issues.
As a person with a mental illness, it is so very disheartening.
*By this logic, my past cancer treatment must have been a figment of my imagination, seeing as how there’s more than one type of leukaemia and whatnot!
I’d like to give a shoutout to new NZ feminist group blog, The Stroppery, strapline “Tea, crumpets, and fucking the patriarchy”. Bloggers include Boganette, Queen of Thorns, Octavia, Emma Hart, and Tangerina.
@Lauredhel: The Stroppery is glorious, and they’ve already got a resident concern troll! That’s absolutely awesome for their first weekend, so I’m about to add them to the blogroll.

Yeah.
Sorry, I probably shouldn’t mar Otterday with The Disappointing Wrongness Of People Who Have It Wrong. I’ll try to improve next time!
Perla, Otterday is definitely a place to vent as well as to share more enjoyable tales. Rant away.
Oh dear, last night promising to go to a late gig and party afterwards seemed like such a good idea. But having done that last night, I’m not sure I can do it
too(see?) TWO nights in a row#firstworldproblems #middleagedandbroken
Socialising. I remember what that was like, before the homework came.
Actually, today I took the afternoon off to go to the goth market. Had a rather interesting conversation about the feminist implications of corsets and a t-shirt that says “kissing is awesome, feelings are boring”.
Thanks, tigtog. I wasn’t sure!
News that The Chaser team are going to provide royal wedding commentary on ABC2 has got me intrigued. They’ve made some missteps over the years, but this sort of malarkey sounds right up their alley and probably quite a bit of fun. It may even get me to watch some of the coverage.
Thanks for the plug and the delicious OED smackdown, tigtog!
Well, I so rarely get the chance to wave my big dic’ about, QoT – it just had to be done!

Sorry if my reaction played a part in your concern there; I figure probably not, as it was just one word, but in case. (I’ve used Otterday to rant about mental health wrongness myself, or vent about my own illness spiking).
Nah, it’s alright. I just wasn’t sure, as I haven’t commented on that many open threads in this neck of the woods!
