Today’s Dose of Awesome: Desaturated Santa

This is Desaturated Santa (aka Brody Qat) at the 2010 San Francisco’s annual SantaCon gathering. This was all over the intertubes a while ago, but I missed it at the time. Anyway, the image below is not photo-manipulated – this is pure art-concept theatrical costuming executed with meticulous attention to detail (click through for larger pic).

Qat has written on her blog about cavorting in grey-scale for the 2009 and 2010 SantaCons, and has just published some advice for others about creating their own desaturated character-other-than-Santa costumes.

This truly is a work of art. I love how it plays with people’s perceptions and twists their expectations – absolutely first class.

  1. Wow, that’s amazing!!

  2. I am awed that someone actually thought, ‘wow, how cool would it look if I dressed in white and grey and painted myself grey, with a grey wig amongst all the red and white santa outfits’ and then went out and found a way to do it. Just awesome.

  3. Somebody else did a flip photo-manip where he made all the other Santas grey and recolourised Brody – just to show how well she chose her shades of grey.

  4. Thanks, I’m glad you like the costume! It’s definitely fun to be inside of it and seeing people freak out. 🙂

  5. Thanks for dropping by, Brody – the thing I love most about your art here is just how widely it made me grin – it’s rare to find something that simply uplifting.
