  1. I just saw this: http://www.theage.com.au/opinion/society-and-culture/busted-the-politics-of-cleavage-and-a-glance-20120211-1sy7e.html (WARNING for extreme patriarchy.)

Thought people might be interested in seeing the lastest absolute bullshit. (And hey, quoting Schwyzer just makes it that little bit more accurate, right?)

  2. Jo, that piece is so lacking in a point that it seriously makes me suspect that the actual point was to get page hits by drawing out all the vicious misogynist people who fuel the comment threads on these things, when given an opening.

Love the bit about Lucas and Han Solo: looking forward to Star Wars and the Periwinckle Garden.

  3. I know. It’s really horrible. The comments actually surprised me – there were some critical ones in there. No wondering commenting was disabled, we can’t have people pointing out what crap all this is!

  4. I was wondering if that Arndt story was actually AI output – it seemed so full of cliches and stereotypes with no actual content. There’s also a whole feminist essay to be written about how all the named (authoritative) sources are men (including, yes, HS) and there are only a few female sources, all agreeing with the menz.
I’m slightly surprised at The Australian story on marriage equality – the tone of it suggests to me the Oz thinks it’s eventually inevitable and isn’t bothered by that, which isn’t what I’d have guessed of them.

  5. Well if a girlfriend basher can win a Grammy then I reckon it’s all right to like Catherine Deveny again, despite her drunk tweet. That article is a cracker.

  6. Oh, I just saw the bit about shameless self-promotion, so I thought I’d link to my last post. I wrote it for the new UQ Women’s Collective zine and I’m actually really proud of finally writing it because I’ve been wanting to for a long time. Hope you don’t mind 🙂
“Why Didn’t You Just Punch Him?” Thinking about sexual harassment and women’s passivity

  7. I looked at a scene from Tamora Pierce’s latest novel Mastiff, where it appears that even a tested heroine can’t escape pressure to dress (in an actual dress0 for dinner.
I also do an occasional series on chair yoga, for folks who spend a lot of time in chairs of various types. This time up is a seated balance to engage core and leg muscles.
