Otterday! And Open Thread.

Today’s Open Thread is hosted by two wee otters. The first, from Chester Zoo, was shared on flickr by Steven Feather.

Upright whiskery otter with paws out, as though gesturing or beckoning.

The second is this sleepy, cuddly pair of Oriental Short-Clawed otters, shared by yasa_.

Two oriental short-clawed otters asleep on sand. One has its head cuddled up to the other's neck.

Please feel free to use this thread to natter about anything your heart desires. Is there anything great happening in your life? Anything you want to get off your chest? Reading a good book (or a bad one)? Anything in the news that you’d like to discuss? What have you created lately? Commiserations, felicitations, temptations, contemplations, speculations?

  1. Hello Hoydenizens! I haven’t entirely forgotten about you all, it’s just been a very intense time this last few weeks.
My mum was transferred to the hospice on Monday. She’s been more comfortable there than she was in the hospital ward, but she’s not eating much and so not got much energy. My sibs and I are taking turns to keep her company during the day and sleeping over at night.
It’s awful, but I wouldn’t be anywhere else right now.

  2. Hugs if you want them, tigtog. 😦

  3. Hugs from me as well, tigtog. Wishing you all the strength and love you need.
I’ve been busy with uni and sick a bit as well, and although I finished a whole bunch of assessments last week, I still feel like there’s so much that needs to be done! But such is life. 🙂

  4. I’m so sorry to hear that, tigtog. Having recently gone through something similar I know how hard it is.

  5. Yes, all the hugs, and all the internet chocolate and red wine too.

  6. More hugs for the offering, tigtog. That picture you posted of your parents (on FB) was beautiful, thanks for sharing it. I hope all the family are coping, it’s an awful thing to go through.

  7. Thanks, Xanthë. Mum passed away on Tuesday afternoon, and we’re holding the funeral this coming week. It was quick and peaceful in the end, and she was ready to go, so I’m glad for her that it happened swiftly.
Going through the family photos for the tribute slideshow is very comforting, as it happens.

  8. Sorry to hear that your mum died, tigtog. Look after yourself, I’m sure this is a difficult time.

  9. My condolences to you and your family tigtog. My gran always said ‘you never really feel like a grown up until you lose your parents’.

  10. Condolences from me also, tigtog.
