Field and Game Australia’s Rod Drew said protesters should be investigated over the incident. He said it could be more than just a coincidence that the slaughter happened on the year that duck protesters had been sitting for firearm and game licence tests. He said the protesters could have shot the ducks ”to bring the shooters into disrepute”.

Oh FFS. But somehow it is not more than just a coincidence that this happens when the department in charge of the season changes from the Environment Dept to one with ‘Game’ actually in its name?
I support Sporting Shooters – who shoot at clay targets and feral animals. I think it is a legitimate sport and feral control is important. However, there is no excuse for this slaughter. The Public Servant who was supposed to be in charge of this should lose his job, this was very badly handled. Plus, the ‘Game’ part of the department should be abolished and the responsibility go back to the Environment Department, if indeed there is a duck season at all.
I am just waiting for the first fatality to occur in a National Park when dickheads with guns get loose in there. I don’t class all sporting shooters as dickheads with guns, but like all sports there are some.
…
I was very impressed by that! There were also some rumblings that the indiscriminate shooters *must* have been from urban areas.
