ObNewDoctor post: Place Your Bets

Because thehorrorthehorror of what some other people are speculating!

I can appreciate why a promising young whippersnapper like Matt Smith might be thinking that it’s time to push his career onwards by playing new characters, but I’ll miss Eleven.

  1. I don’t know about betting on it, but I’ll put my vote in for Richard Ayoade and Rachel Weisz.

  2. Perhaps they will finally make the Doctor a ‘ginger’…
Is suggesting Benedict Cumberbatch just too much of a fangirl’s wet dream?

  3. Further to our discussion a couple of weeks ago, I think Miranda Hart would make a smashing Doctor.

  4. Parminder Nagra? (Although Rachel Weisz is a cool choice I hadn’t considered before).
    How about Naveen Andrews?

  5. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: Helen Mirren. Although, Miranda Hart… Hmmm.

  6. Rachel Weisz would be awesome! As for Cumberbatch, as awesome as he is as Sherlock, I think he should stay away from DW. He did already turn it down once.
I’d love to see a female Doctor, as long as it isn’t Helena Bonham Carter. Someone relatively unknown would be good, DW works best that way I think. On the whole, even though I will miss Eleven a lot, I’m glad he’s leaving on a high and not after being dragged into the wallowing pit of angst like Ten was!

  7. Must be quirky in behaviour, be able to deliver a good catchphrase, and have a costume with a time theme. Flava Flav is perfect. Think about it.

  8. We all know you want it to be Aidan Turner, Orlando.

  9. Suranne Jones, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Eddie Izzard would probably be my pie-in-the-sky dream castings.

Bill Nighy remains my one slightly-hopeful choice though.

  10. I’d like to see Rebecca Front or Clare Holman play the doctor (Superintendant Innocent and Dr Hobson in Lewis) But even if it’s another man, could it PLEASE be someone older?

  11. Well it won’t be anyone over 50, probably. RTD said that the 60 hour weeks in a Cardiff winter would have killed William Hartnell.

  12. That’s a point.
Hmm … just occurred to me that if it’s still going to be a young bloke doing it, what about Lawrence Fox? (Hathaway from Lewis – yeah, I’m a big fan of the series!)
He’s good, and having Billy Piper’s husband play the Doctor would be fun.

  13. Chiwetel Ejiofor and Rachel Weisz are both awesome suggestions, but they might be too big for it, I don’t know. Can we have a new showrunner as well, please?

  14. Rebecca Front
Which reminds me – how about Rebecca Hall?

  15. Ooh, ooh! I vote for Chiwetel Ejiofor (Firefly fans may recognize him as the Operative in Serenity). The Daily Mail says he has 7/1 odds.
    I also like Zawe Ashton.
