2013 National NAIDOC Week Theme

The theme for NAIDOC Week 2013 is We value the vision: Yirrkala Bark Petitions 1963, proudly celebrating the 50th anniversary of the presentation of the Yirrkala Bark Petitions to the Federal Parliament.

The NAIDOC website has suggestions for ways to celebrate NAIDOC week yourself as well as a calendar of public NAIDOC week events.

I plan to head into town tomorrow for NAIDOC in the City in Hyde Park – the forecast is for a beautiful sunny day, so it should be especially joyous.

  1. I’m going to the national NAIDOC ball in Perth – so excited!

    • I really enjoyed NAIDOC in the city today – sunny park full of happy faces – until I happened to be leaving, and coming the other way towards me on the pedestrian crossing was Cardinal Archbishop George Pell (heading towards his cathedral). He’s an ageing but still physically impressive remnant of a large muscular man, yet he hunches his shoulders to look humble, and it just doesn’t match the rest of his rather smug body language. I admit that there may well be some degree of ethical animus informing the impression of him that I formed, but if his body language had been less odd I wouldn’t have ever taken that second look required to recognise him in the first place.
