Today’s otter is a windup toy spotted by oldfeminist, spotted at US store Five Below. Once wound, its tail flaps and its hands whack at the shell balanced on its chest.

I meant to do a Friday Hoyden yesterday of Lilly, Jane and Dolly from 9to5. I caught the last half hour of it during the week and had forgotten just how full-on hoydenish it was.
First date in two years. Got stood up. ):
I like the new text styling options.
Oh no, AK! Not fair.
At least someone finally came up with a decent replacement for the old comments quicktag plugin that stopped working a couple of years ago.
@tigtog: Not sure if you know this already, but mobile site for hoyden doesn’t seem to be working on my iPod touch. I can access the regular site well enough on it, so it’s not a huge deal, just thought I’d mention it.
@Amazing Kim: Oh no, that’s not cool! :C
While I’m here, anyone have any experience with nerve conduction studies? I have it scheduled for Tuesday for a suspected ulnar nerve entrapment (I’ve had a numb 4th and 5th finger on my left hand for a few months with significantly decreased grip strength – 16 vs. 29 on the right) and despite the fact that I approve and pay for these things for clients as part of my job, I have no idea what they’re actually like.
Hi Jennifer – the mobile plugin went weird so I disabled it, and am looking into whether I can find a replacement (although apparently for some folks the new theme is quite readable without the plugin just fine). I’m testing a mobile-stylesheet possibility over at tigtog.net – can you point your phone browser at that and tell me how it works for you?
Actually, I only thought I’d disabled the old mobile plugin! It’s definitely disabled now, and the new one is activated. It doesn’t like the zine-style front page, but I’ve put a link there to take people to the blog page. If you want a head-start on getting straight to the blog page, just bookmark https://hoydenabouttown.com/blog

@ Jennifer – Um I think so. I had a carpal tunnel test last year where they put little electrodes onto my hand and arm and put little shocks through. The shocks ranged from feeling strange and making my hand contort to quite painful but not enough to make me cry out – if that helps. I found the pain sensation to be fairly fleeting as well. Hope this is helpful. Both arms took about 20 minutes all up.
@Minday: Yep, that’s the same test, I’m just having it for the nerve on the little finger side of my hand 🙂 Thanks, that gives me a reasonable idea of what to expect. 🙂
HI Jennifer – the good thing about nerve conduction studies is that as soon as the impulses stop, you really can’t feel it any more. It’s a good thing to keep in mind because it does feel quite strange. I think I found the oddness more unpleasant than the discomfort.
I just opened a bottle of wine with a corkscrew and realised that it’s probably the first time this year that I’ve used one. And we like our wine! It’s just so rare to find one with a cork these days.
There’s a ritualistic aspect to using the special implement and hearing that burping pop that is kinaesthetically most satisfying. I miss it.
Sorry to hear that, Amazing Kim.
I had to get my 20 year old cat put down today. Hardest day I’ve had in a long time. Watched lots of kiddy cartoons and chilled out in the evening. Feeling okay. Not brilliant, but okay.
@napalmnacey Many sympathies, it’s horrible having to say goodbye 😦
I need to leave the house in 15 minutes. I’m in my pjs and haven’t had breakfast. I was wishing I’d got out of bed half an hour earlier instead of succumbing to cat and dog cuddles, but they were being so cute jostling for prime snuggling spots. And now I’m glad I stayed.
Thanks Pen. 🙂
@napalmnacey: I’m so sorry. 😦 My thoughts are with you.
@napalmnacey: My sympathies as well. I hate saying goodbye to beloved animals.
Sorry to hear that Napalmnacey.
