Media Circus: Shorten is LOTO edition

Opposition leader Bill Shorten announces Tanya Plibersek as deputy leader, and Penny Wong as Leader of the senate for the Labor party.

There’s a background rumble of grumbling from the ALP rank and file regarding how comprehensively Albo won their section of the voting only to be outweighed by the fewer than 70 members of the parliamentary party caucus, compounded by continuing complaints about ballot forms that never showed up in the mail. Doesn’t sound like the sort of rumbling that will fade away any time soon.

What news story/commentary/analysis has grabbed your attention lately?

As usual for media circus threads, please share your bouquets and brickbats for particular items in the mass media, or highlight cogent analysis or pointed twitterstorms etc in new media. Discuss any current sociopolitical issue (the theme of each edition is merely for discussion-starter purposes – all current news items are on topic!).

  1. Heh – I read LOTO and thought ‘Lord of the…?’

    • angharad, you’re very wicked because now I can’t unsee Shorten/Gollum. Albo is of course Samwise Gamgee rather than Frodo. I think Tanya Plibersek is Frodo.

  2. I’m afraid Tony Abbott will always be Gollum in my mind, from that very odd electoral video that had Julian Assange singing The Voice.
