White Heather blended Scotch is better balanced than the Black Douglas for a similiar price.
Glenfarclas 15yo single malt is a superior mid-palate and lingering mouthfeel to the Macallan’s 18yo for 2/3 the price.

Now the only question is whether I can be adventurous enough to spend the once-in-a-blue-moon-Laphroiag budget on experimenting with your recommendations.
Laphroaig: the Lapsang Souchong of whisky. Total love it or hate it taste.
I loves me a Laphroaig too, although we haven’t had it in the house for some time. After yesterday’s session I actually said to mr tog we should get ourselves an extra-aged Laphraoig for Xmas.
Glenfarclas is robust enough to definitely be a sippin’ whisky not a swillin’ whisky, but doesn’t have the seaweedy-iodine quality that puts so many people off the Islay malts. A good backup single malt to have to offer those who can’t stand the iodine.
Mnnnyeaaah… hate Laphroaig? Who? Where? I refuse to believe it.
And don’t worry about this Christmas shit, having more than than the cost of a bottle in your bank account at any time ought to be enough of an occasion to spend your money on fun booze. It’s still about ninety bucks in Australia, isn’t it?
Buy a bottle for Ramadan.
