More gruesome graphics

Yet another forced-birther group:

If you were born after 1972, we challenge you to consider yourself a Survivor of the Abortion Holocaust. 1/3 of your generation has been killed by abortion in America!

To hammer their point home, Survivors has a slide show of gruesome images of dismembered foetuses up on their front page (NSFW). As we’ve said before, heart surgery and hip replacement surgery is pretty gory too, and of course all the foetuses they show are well advanced in gestation, despite something like 85% percent of abortions taking place in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy, another 13% taking place in the the next six weeks, and much less than 0.5% taking place after 6 months gestation, usually in the most tragic of circumstances for a much wanted pregnancy. Such parades of gory body parts are the worst kind of sensation mongering.

The Christian Defense Coalition calls the Survivors group “young people” (even though someone born in 1972 would be turning 36 this year, although I guess some members will be younger) who

will join with the Christian Defense Coalition as they launch a national public campaign educating voters on Senator Obama’s radical support of abortion.

The two voices trotted forward are two “mothers of young children”:

the most helpless of our citizens are denied basic rights inside the womb

I refuse to show support to a candidate who promotes abortion up to the day of birth and who thinks a baby is a punishment instead of a precious gift.

They just are such blatant liars. Acknowledging that the right to a necessary medical procedure in the latest stages of pregnancy should not be abridged is not the same as “promoting” it. And only something you want can be a “precious gift”.

Having a child that you want arrive in the world is a precious gift indeed. But that’s not what will happen to women who are compelled (through having no other option) to complete unplanned pregnancies. The forced-birthers rarely mention adoption other than in the most saccharine of terms, but what they really mean is that women having unplanned pregnancies should go through all the physical labour of pregnancy and birth not so that they can have a “precious gift” for themselves but so that they can give a “precious gift” to somebody else.

Authoritarianism with a very nasty selfish streak.

  1. Well thank the Goddess I was born in 1971 (and a VERY fresh 37!). As a mother of two whose had an abortion I would enjoy making their heads spin!

  2. If memory serves most of the women who died from unsafe illegal abortions were already mothers, and often as not married to boot. That’s usually why they needed the abortions – they couldn’t afford to feed the kids they already had.
But you hardly ever hear about mothers in such situations and abortion from the forced-birthers. No, it’s all about single women being selfish.
    Bah!

  3. I would be very interested in knowing what basic right is being to denied to foetuses in the womb. I am pretty sure there is no basic right to place extraneous demands on another person’s body for survival. If there is, I think we should all move into the houses of the pro-lifers and eat all their food.

And some of their toes, and bits of their livers. You can live just fine without those, can’t you?
