Help out Heretical

Heretical is the annual magazine of the Women’s Collective at UQ (University of Queensland). This year it might not appear unless there is some rapid assistance from the broad feminist community. They simply don’t have enough submissions, and time is running out, largely because the collective’s time has been spent coping with hostility and harassment on campus targeting women’s groups and also LGBTQ groups.

The Women’s Room was recently vandalised:

If you are a blogger who is happy for a post or two of yours to appear in the magazine, please leave a note in the comment below with a valid email address, and I can pass your contact details on to the member of the UQ collective who contacted me regarding this. This is very very very late notice I’m afraid. Please help if you can.

  1. Anything for the cause.

    lionmutt@hotmail.com

  2. By all means! It would be an absolute pleasure.

  3. Sure they can use whatever they like from my blog, though none of my recent stuff is that great.

  4. Excellent, thank you all. To save them some time at UQ, I just figured out that the most efficient method would be if you can pick out a couple of your favourite posts and email me the links, then I’ll pass them on.

  5. Don’t know that I’ve guest posted anything here particularly suited but if I have please feel free to pass it on.

  6. I don’t know if they’re willing to include non-Australians, but if so this post about abortion and human rights can be reprinted. I can even whip up an intro paragraph that might help Australian readers contextualize it.
Colleens last blog post..Me fail English? That’s unpossible!

  7. Me too. Will send you some links.

  8. Hi Colleen,
Non-Australian submissions are more than welcome. I think your post is wonderful and hopefully we can include it. If you wanted to embellish it a bit then send it on to Tigtog I’ll be sure to receive it.
    Cheers
    Liz

  9. Hi,

I would be happy to write a new piece, if not for this issue then the next.

  10. I’m happy for them to use any of my material – keeping in mind however that:
    a) I’m not a women
    b) I mostly write about coffee
    c) worst of all, I’m a QUT alumni
I am, however, also happy to write something specifically for them.

  11. Haha…well you’re welcome to any of my posts, and utterly free to edit them for grammatical reasons – or to remove offensive language. Sorry, as I’m at work I can’t go do the linking thing. Best of luck Liz et al.

  12. Sorry – haha was reflecting on how poorly constructed my posts often are, and the need to edit as potentially undoing the ‘help’ of saying ‘Feel free to use my posts’, NOT haha, you’re stuck and need material. Have been in that situation myself before. Best of luck with it all!

  13. Hi all,
I appreciate all the support this is getting and the submissions we’ve had so far have been wonderful. Unfortunately, we don’t have many people working on Heretical (try two, and one part-timer), so I resources are very small. Please understand that Heretical needs to be produced within the next couple of days, so we can’t edit for you. If you would like to submit, please do so according to the following guidelines:
    1. It’s preferable that it’s already in publishable form. As I’ve said, we simply don’t have the time and resources to do anything but throw it together. If you want to submit, it would be best if it were grammatically correct and suitable for publication to save us some time.
    2. Please don’t ask us to pick an article for you. I enjoy the blogs of many commenters on Hoyden but again, we don’t have the time to go through your archives and pick one we like. Also, I would prefer to be publishing articles that the authors themselves are proud of. Submit your favourite piece, or the one you feel best represent you as an author.
    3. It does not have to be female-authored, but it must be women/feminist-friendly
    4. Submit as soon as possible. We hope to start it printing on Friday so the absolutest latest we can accept articles in mid-tomorrow (Australian time, obviously 🙂 )
Fuckpoliteness, if I can find a spare half hour today, I might borrow one of yours, possibly the one on Miranda Devine and sarah Palin. No promises though.
    Again, thanks for everyone’s help!

  14. I could proofread, if anyone needs it.

  15. Oh, one more thing. If you would like to be credited in a particular way, please specify that with your post. Otherwise you will be credited by blog username and title e.g. “Tigtog blogs at “Hoyden About Town” (https://hoydenabouttown.com/)”

  16. I’m happy to contribute, I’ve got a few pro-choice posts and a post specifically about feminism you could use.
How would you like them submitted?
    My email address is kedgie1982@hotmail.com
Keris last blog post..He’s got the Foo Fighters? Well that changes everything!

  17. Should have read comment thread more thoroughly. Have sent links through.
