I heard today on FB that cats were once worshipped as gods. My cats didn’t get that memo, they still think they are gods. So this latest whimsy has a feline flavour.

And this is where I would put my scratch post.

Decades ago we had a Seal Point Siamese, Sam-the-Panther (Samantha) grew up with our children (and was a wonderful companion to them). She loved to perch on my husband’s shoulder at meal times, and if she fancied the morsel on his fork, out would whip the grappling hooks and she would snag herself a treat. On several occasions the choice of morsel was extraordinary – she had a thing for fresh, steamed asparagus (not the tinned stuff, darling!), but mostly it was the more usual items, as in MEAT. Still remembered by the whole family with great affection, bless her.

I love the scratch post cat but surely, in a house where there is a curtain or a couch or anything made out of fabric, really, an industrious and imaginative cat need never go without. I know this from bitter (nah, who am I kidding, half the time I actively encourage them, the rest of the time I just look on indulgently) experience.
