• Quotes OTD: Self-Proclaimed Good Guy Who Simply Won’t Take No For An Answer

  This is now eons old in internet time, but I love it anyway. It’s from one of the massive threads over at Shapely Prose where women spoke about why shouldn’t be guilted into “just being nice” to men who intrusively ignore their widely understood social signals of being busy/involved/uninterested as they are going about their day commuting, walking in a park, sitting in a cafe/bar or whatever.

  One thing that leaped out at me during the media blitz on the Battle of Trafalgar flag that fetched a record price at auction is that it brought out one of my least favourite pieces of rhetoric from the anonymous flag collector who won the auction, in a radio interview, about the connection he felt to those who had “fought and died for this flag”.

  Sweet FSM, that phrase raises all my hackles.

  I’d forgotten all about the panicmongering from Catch the Fire ministries about alleged blood sacrifices by witches on the mountain-top from a few weeks ago, but Saturday was the day of the exorcism for the evil spirits raised by these rust stains at the base of an air safety beacon just below the summit.
