Check out Sophie’s Steampunk Suffragette costume, now at the Hoydens About! flickr pool. She wore this for the Wasteland Steampunk convention.

I’ve a guest post up at Shakesville, reprising the Monica Dux saga and responding to her article which repudiated blogospherians in general and the Hoydens in particular as a shameless, hysterical lynch mob.

Congratulations to local digital-culture blogger Tama from Ponderance: he and his partner Emily have welcomed wee Henry Alexander into the world!

NARAL have released a web video drawing attention to McCain’s sarcastic, sneering ” ‘health’ of the mother” air-quotes moment from the third presidential debate.

I think I’m in love with the steampunk suffragette.
I really liked the post over at Shakes.
I’m not going to be bullied by Monica Dux into posting my name and occupation in order to be considered a legitimate person, though.
*sigh* Ah well.
Anna – a perfectly reasonable position to take (and the same one I’m taking).
*blush* 🙂
*grin*
I agree with Anna on both points–great post Lauredhel, and I’m not outing myself.
…hrm, I smell a post on why I’m pseudonymous in the wind.
I was particularly thrilled by Sophies marvellous costume, because I had given a presentation (well, really just a solo rant) about how so much steampunk ends up as fetishing colonial power, etc. I’d argued that rather than steampunk costuming representing the power elite and the military etc, it should include more elements of cultural difference, the counterculture of the time (theosophists, etc), and the progressive forces of the time such as suffragettes.
I was at the time disappointed, as many of the audience responded by defending the Victorians (as one friend put it, they didn’t like me harshing their squee), but then Sophies marvellous costume came along the next day!
Oh dave. Don’t worry – Sophie’s costume has made my squee factor go up pretty high!
It’s not just the genius outfit, it’s the sense of purposeful jauntiness conveyed in the photo. Well done Sophie!
Also, that NARAL video is fantastic.
As I said before, if you write that rant up I promise to squee about it 🙂
