  • Roman Polanski can remain silent no more. Anybody got a gag?
  • – “What makes me sick to my stomach is that Polanski’s talking about his unserved sentence for a crime he did commit in terms more appropriate to describe the many people serving sentences for crimes they didn’t commit.”

  • Domestic violence is bad because…
  • – “I don’t usually pay much attention to all those Facebook chain statuses. You know, the ones that try to guilt you into reposting them by implying that not doing so makes you mean and selfish and heartless. I skim read them, feel a moment of irritation, and then move on. But this one stopped me in my tracks. It just felt so wrong.”

  • Why Are You So Angry?
  • – “Really, ladeez! Why so angry and mean? Why can’t you just spoon-feed with nice, soothing, silky-soft friendly language and avoid curse words and not make AllGoodMen feel bad about themselves and not make them worry that anything might have to change in any substantive manner?”

  • Telling stories is how I think
  • – “Fanfic is visible evidence that although you read and loved the story that the writer wanted you to get, you didn’t think about that story as the writer wanted you to think.”

  • Facebook fails again
  • – “*trigger alert for violence and assholes*

Logged onto Facebook today and saw a distant (female) cousin is “attending” an event called “National Punch a slut in the head week”. Seriously. So far it has 18,436 people “attending”.”

  • don’t be love-handling me thankyou very much
  • – “The fact that we aren’t, that we don’t care to strive for that social ideal that you spend so much time chasing after really gets your goat. You would never admit it, but you know what?

    You are jealous of us.”

  1. Man, I love Zuska.
I was reading NSW parliament Hansard (as you do) for the debate on the Relationships Register Act which would provide a mechanism to register for legal purposes non-married relationships. Heterosexual defactos qualify but obviously the main use of it would be for same sex relationships. Most of the No votes (which was actually only about 1/4 of MPs as far as I can see — the Libs/Nats allowed a conscience vote, solely so they could bag Labor for not allowing a conscience vote) were bog standard “marriage is between a man a women just because” variety but there were a couple that stood out for more than usual hilarious fuckwittery.
Greg Smith, NSW Opposition Attorney General (ie chief law talking dude in the probable next government after March 2011):
“The passing of this bill will be another increment in the undermining and destruction of marriage and the traditional family. The analogous legislation in the Australian Capital Territory, Victoria and Tasmania, combined with this law when enacted, will have an effect on the bastion of marriage that is akin to General Santa Anna’s troops surrounding the Alamo, starving out the defenders of an independent Texas. The supporters of marriage and the family feel like the occupants of strife-torn Derry during the troubles in Northern Ireland in the 1960s and 1970s”
And a few short lines later after this admirable rhetorical restraint he complains about how “the marriage debate” is always sullied by “ideological pontificating.”
I realise mocking Rev. Fred Nile is low hanging fruit of the low hangingest variety but still allow me to cut and paste from Hansard:
“There is a lot of evidence available—in fact, it has increased dramatically because of changes in society—to show why we should not proceed down the path of same-sex marriage, for which, as I said, this bill will provide a platform. There are many science-based arguments against same-sex marriage. I will not go through them in detail but I will just mention some points: that children hunger for biological parents [PARENTICDAL CANNIBALISM!!11!??- ed]; that children need fathers; that children need mothers; that the evidence on parenting by same-sex couples is inadequate; that evidence suggests that children raised by homosexuals are more likely to experience gender and sexual disorders; that same-sex marriage would undercut the norm of sexual fidelity within marriage; that same-sex marriage would further isolate marriage from its procreative purpose; that same-sex marriage would further diminish the expectation of paternal commitments; that marriages thrive when spouses specialise in gender-typical roles; that women in marriage domesticate men. I am happy to provide a copy of these arguments to any member. I heard somebody say that what I am saying is not correct. Those points I have just quoted are all supported by authentic scientific research.”
