Happy birthday, horsies

Today is the official birthday of all racehorses in the Southern Hemisphere.

Asked why it was essential to have all horses celebrating their birthday on the same day, Mr McCulloch said it was more of a racing tradition than anything else.

“So that all the two-year-olds change over to three-year-olds and all the three-year-olds change over to four-year-olds at the same time.

Because you have two-year-old races and three”“year-old races so it just makes it convenient that everything changes over on the one day.”

  2. I’m glad you liked the image.
    Happy Birthday lovely horses!

  3. Thanks for taking the shot, Betty. As su says, it’s enough to make you reach out and stroke that nose.

  4. Bah. Humbug. Horses under four years old are babies.
Two year old races, that means seriously young babies.
Babies being raced. Do. Not. Want.
Sorry to be a party pooper, horsies.

  5. I’m not a fan of racing much either, Helen (I just like horses aesthetically), but I hadn’t thought about it from the point of view of the maturity of the horses. Good point.
