Bob Ellis on the Coalition of the Willing:
For we’ve been in Iraq for longer than World War I, and in Afghanistan for longer than World War 2, and in that time we’ve killed half a million people, more than six Hiroshima bombs, and subdued three suburbs, perhaps, in each of them; in the same time as it took to conquer Malaya, the Philippines, Burma, Iwo Jima, New Guinea, the Pacific Islands, Morocco, Egypt, Greece, Italy, France, Holland, the Ukraine, Poland and Germany in World War 2, and we’re sick of it. Howard isn’t, he wants more war, more pointless, noisy slaughter ‘in defence of our way of life’ – in Syria perhaps, Iran, Sudan, or maybe Gaza or Burma.
