Hi everyone- I’ve just updated the HAT feedburner service to point to the new domain, and I ask you all to please use Feedburner because that saves us heaps of bandwidth! Thanks.

Will do, you might want to redirect anyone requesting https://hoydenabouttown.com/feed/ as well (this at least reduces bandwidth because sending the 301 is smaller than the whole feed, and I think some feed readers will completely update their config).
I’ve never done that redirect, but it looks like http://www.456bereastreet.com/archive/200608/redirecting_feeds_to_feedburner/ and http://burnfield.com/martin/2006/04/26/easy-feedburner-redirect/ have the right idea.
Hey, thanks. Looking up that stuff was on my list, because obviously it has to be a little bit clever or else the feed won’t supply feedburner either!
Yes, well, all this geekery scares me a little. What worked for me was (1) going into “Manage subscriptions” on my feedreader (I use Google), (2) deleting my subscription to the old HaT site, then (3) clicking on the feedburner link you put in the post – <a href="http://feeds.feedburner.com/HoydenAboutTownhttp://feeds.feedburner.com/HoydenAboutTown</a>, and then (4) when it wanted me to choose my service, clicking on the Google button.
And lo, a subscription to the new HaT site appeared in my list of subscriptions in my Google reader, just like that. The URL for the new subscription is:
http://feeds.feedburner.com/HoydenAboutTown
I know, I know, grandmothers and sucking eggs for people who play with teh webz and computers for work, but sadly, a bit challenging for people like me (i.e. from the click-and-hope school of internet use).
Yes, Deborah you did entirely the right thing and nobody else should need to do anything differently. Apologies if Mary and I talking about server-level functions confused you!
For clarity (I am not sure whether Deborah knew this or not), my comment above is aimed entirely at tigtog, no one else needs to read those links and should simply instruct their feed reader software to obtain HAT updates from http://feeds.feedburner.com/HoydenAboutTown and remove any other HAT feeds, as Deborah explains.
The comment to tigtog was a suggestion about how to convince software that wasn’t updated to use Feedburner anyway, and it has to be configured on the HAT server (that is, by tigtog).
It never occurred to me that subscribing to the straight feed might use up your bandwidth, but now I think about it, it makes sense. I’ve switched over to the Feedburner feed now anyway. 🙂
