Curious

we just tuned into Auntie to watch the David Wenham (obPhwoah!) minseries Answered by Fire, set in East Timor in the days leading up to the 1999 referendum on independence from Indonesia.

But it’s not on, despite having been advertised all week.

Has someone taken out an injunction? What’s happening?

  1. yeah, same thing happened here. Almost resorted to watching Brant and Todd, but came to visit the blogosphere instead.

  2. Yeah the ABC took it off because of the minors interview. They were worried about the ratings.

  3. Well that’s a disappointingly prosaic explanation. I was envisaging Indonesian diplomats with angry foreheads.Still, when the ABC budget for local drama has been slashed so drastically, I can see why they need to have some ratings to point the politicians to next year.*sigh* I’ll have to get my Wenham fix from that old tape of a Diver Dan Seachange episode until next week then. So, how did Todd’n’Brant do?

  4. Yeah, Tigtog, tis true. An ABC journo tipped me off in Darwin last week, saying the program would be pulled because they didn’t think it would stand a chance against the miners’ interview. Shame. (DW does nothing for me. I reckon Siggy should have gone for Shaun Micallef.)

  5. It may not be actually heretical to remain unthrobbed in response to DW, but to prefer Micallef is definitely at the very least perverse. What about Big Bill and his shoulders?

  6. The ranking is: Shaun Micallef, Big Bill, DW, as I see it.I think she was bloody lucky to find all these spunks (or semi-spunks) at a rather challenged coastal town. Nothing like in the desert, that’s for sure.

  7. You mean the hordes of seachanging middle-aged women pulling a Siggy were doomed to disappointment in their quest for rugged yet sensitive salty men? Who’d a thunk it?Micallef did good acting in the ‘change, though. I do like comedians acting – they’re very sensitive to timing and nuance.

  8. the hordes of seachanging middle-aged women pulling a Siggy were doomed to disappointment in their quest for rugged yet sensitive salty men John Jarratt instead of Dave Wenham… *shudder*
